The Law of Relativity

The Law of Relativity teaches that the understanding of a thing; an object, concept or situation, is relative to the position of the observer.

If you are on the first floor of a two-story building and you gaze up at the surface above your head, you are looking at the “ceiling”. If you are on the second floor and you gaze down at the surface beneath your feet, you are looking at the “floor”. Although, in both instances, you were looking at the same partition between the two stories, your understanding of the partition is determined by your position in relation to it.

What you see is relative to your perspective. If you see yourself as doing better than your neighbor, you may think you are doing well and feel grateful. If you see yourself as doing worse than your neighbor, you may think you are doing poorly and feel miserable. If you perceive yourself as doing better than the neighbor to your left, but worse than the neighbor to your right, how you think of yourself and what you feel about your situation will depend upon where you focus your attention. That is the essence of the law of relativity.

All things are relative. You may think that a “minute” is a “minute”, but it’s not. Physicists have determined that even time and space are relative. A minute on the Moon is faster than a minute on Earth, and a minute on Earth is faster than a minute on the Sun. The law of relativity shows us that how we choose to perceive things determines what we accept as truth. Therefore, “truth” is relative.

Have you ever noticed that it seems to take longer to get someplace that you want to go than it takes to return home? It really doesn’t. But, your perception of the truth is determined by where you focused your attention, your perspective, or perception. On the way to your destination, you are focused upon what will happen when you get there. You are very conscious of how long it is taking to reach the markers along the way that indicate how much further you have to go.

On your way home, you tend to relive what happened on the trip. You analyze how you felt about things seen and heard. You consider to whom you want to tell what, when you get home. Then suddenly you are home and you don’t remember much about the return trip.

It was the anxiety of anticipating what you expected; or put another way, your focus on waiting, that made it seem as though time was moving slowly. On the return trip, it was the lessoning of anxiety, that lessoned the perception of slow-moving time. While time did not actually slow or speed-up, your “truth”, that is to say “your experience of time”, changed relative to your anxiety level.

And so it is with all truths. According to the law of relativity, what we accept as true, or even possible, is determined by our perspective; how we view one thing relative to another. It is our perspectives; how we relate objects, concepts and situations, that determine how we act and even how we feel.

I said in an earlier article that people who are conflicted in what they want, or are consumed by negativity, have difficulty in consistently manifesting what they want. This is why we must monitor our perspectives regularly. You can not manifest wealth, for instance, until you are in a state of wealth acceptance. You cannot be in a state of wealth acceptance until you feel wealthy. You can not feel wealthy until you are grateful for all that comes your way. And, you cannot be grateful for all that comes your way when your perspective is one of lacking.

The perspective of wanting to experience more is NOT the same as the perspective of lacking. You can feel whole and be grateful, and yet still desire to fulfill even greater potential. But when you feel lacking, you are not whole. You are not grateful because you feel that something necessary is missing. When you are grateful, you feel blessed. You know that you live in an abundant universe that will supply your needs. You know that what you have, or don’t have is relative. It is simply a matter of perspective.

Align yourself with the law of relativity.

If you feel that you are lacking something; money, food, strength, shelter, the ability to walk, whatever it is, decide to share what you do have with someone else. Perhaps you can donate money, food or clothing to a neighbor, family member or charity. It doesn’t matter how much you give, just give something. If you have a positive perception of someone feeling negative, share with them your positive thoughts. If you know how to do something that someone is struggling with, share your knowledge. When you start to share what you have with others, you will begin to feel blessed. You will appreciate what you have been given. You will begin to feel gratitude.

As you come to appreciate what you have, you will feel whole and be grateful.

True, some things you do not have. But, also true is that some things you have compensate for things you do not have. If you have what you need to survive, then what you do not have is merely relative. They do not make you less than whole. When you learn to be grateful for even the things that you do not have, you will come to understand the true meaning of wealth.

Being wealthy is the state of having more than you need. No matter how much you acquire, someone will always have something that you do not. It is all relative. When you understand wealth and make peace with your circumstances, you will feel wealthy. When you feel wealthy, you will be in a state of wealth acceptance. When you are in this state, you can manifest more wealth.

All obstacles are opportunities to change your perspective. If the thing in your path stops you from proceeding, then you have been blocked. If the thing in your path causes you to go around it, then you have been blessed with a new route. It is simply a matter of relativity.
