The Law of Cause and Effect

The Law of Cause and Effect states that every action results in a related consequence of equivalent magnitude.

“Equivalent magnitude” refers to “direct” effects. “Indirect” effects may be completely disproportional to the cause. For example, a child accidentally spills water from a glass and the floor gets wet. The spilling is the cause; the wet floor is the direct effect, a relatively minor cause and a relatively minor effect.

Imagine, however, that an adult slips on the wet floor, falls, and scolds the child. The slip is not a direct effect of the spill. It is an indirect effect of the spill and a direct effect of the adult stepping on the wet floor. Therefore, the stepping is the direct cause of the slip, the slip of the fall, the fall of the anger, and the anger of the scolding.

Everything after the wetting of the floor is an indirect effect of the spill, and is disproportionate to the actual spill itself. However, each subsequent effect is relatively proportional in magnitude to its actual direct cause (stepping/slipping, slipping/falling, falling/anger, anger/scolding).

The scolding of the child is a completely disproportionate indirect effect of the cause, the accidental spilling, but it is “an” effect.

Because all things are of one thing, subject to one set of rules, and constantly communicating to the universe through vibration, infinite intelligence is always tracking the state of affairs in the universe.

According to the law of cause and effect, whenever thought, deed, emotion or speech conveys a message; a form or function is altered; something is assembled, disassembled, displaced or replaced; there is an effect, and the universe must accommodate that change.

The communication itself may be the cause, and the accommodation the effect. And, since every effect is a change, every effect becomes a new cause with a new effect. This is why the universe is always in flux.

But, it seems to me that this is a good thing. It makes manifestation easier.

If every intent required things to move from a dead stop, manifestation would require massive amounts of time and energy. But, with millions of processes at work every second, adjusting a few processes already in motion seems very doable doesn’t it?

Infinite intelligence uses the law of cause and effect in reverse mode as well. Where an effect is needed, a cause will be initiated. Where balance or space is necessary, something may have to be created or destroyed. Where preparation is required, things may be delayed, or appear out of sequence. Where immediacy is required, things may seem to happen randomly. Where variety is needed, there may be mutations.

We can never know all the effects of a cause. Some effects will be pleasing, others not. Some will be immediate, others delayed. Some will occur locally, some distant. Some will be expected, others surprising. But, knowing that every cause has an effect underscores the importance of choosing carefully what message you wish to convey to the universe through your thoughts, words, acts and emotions.
